International Women's Day - Period Party

Stay tuned for all the HPP Period Party locations around the globe.

This year's theme for International Women's Day is #EqualforEqual - it's a global day for celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. It also marks a call to action for accelerating women's equality, and this year The Homeless Period Project is spotlighting Menstrual Equity, as our organization partners with others to eliminate taxes on menstrual products and for these products to be provided in school restrooms around the globe.

Tampon Tax Protest Tour - Greenville, SC

Tampon Tax Protest Tour - Greenville, SC

The truck will be in Greenville on Wednesday, 11/27. - Main St, Greenville, SC

Description

Want to see the tampon tax eliminated? On November 27, make your voice heard. Join us in Greenville for the Tampon Tax Protest Tour. Our collective action is a first step in initiating lawsuits against the 33 states that don’t consider tampons and pads necessities.

Why we're protesting

A sales tax on menstrual products is not just inequitable and unfair; it is sex-based discrimination in violation of the equal protection clauses of the state and federal constitutions, and is therefore unconstitutional and illegal.

What we're doing

It's simple: Stop by for 20 minutes to submit a sales tax reimbursement claim to your state’s department of revenue, protesting the sales tax on your period product receipt as unconstitutional.

How it works

  1. Bring a tampon or pad receipt (or get one on site from LOLA).

  2. Fill out a Claim for Refund contesting the sales tax on your receipt (we’ll have everything you need, including the address to your dept of revenue and a pre-stamped envelope).

  3. Rally your community with a photo from our protest installation.

What to bring

  • A receipt from a period product purchase (we'll be selling product if you want to get a receipt onsite)

  • A pen

  • Friends!

Ready to make history? See you on 11/27 on Main Street. Look for the truck that says: Stop taxing our periods!

Host: VOLUME SALON

We are teaming up with The Homeless Period Project to collect individually wrapped period supplies during July and August. Menstrual hygiene products are one of the least donated items to homeless and women’s shelters. Many less advantaged households don’t realize they are placing their girls at a disadvantage by encouraging them to miss school or work because be menstrual hygiene is not considered a necessity. We are having a big packing party where we will take all of your donations and bag them up to be delivered to over 100 different locations in the LowCountry!!
